Mugwort is an herb with a rich history of medicinal and culinary use. Native to Europe and Asia, it is characterized by its aromatic leaves and silver-gray appearance. Mugwort has been used traditionally in herbal remedies for its potential digestive and anti-inflammatory properties. It is often brewed into teas or used as a seasoning in culinary dishes, adding a slightly bitter and earthy flavor. In some cultures, mugwort is also known for its potential psychoactive properties and is used in rituals and dream enhancement practices (this is why mugwort is one of the primary herbs in our Lucid Dreams tea blend and Lucid Dreams pre-ground blend).

STUDIED BENEFITS OF MUGWORT

  1. Digestive Aid: Mugwort has been traditionally used to support digestion and alleviate digestive complaints such as indigestion, bloating, and stomachaches. It is often consumed as a tea or used in cooking.
  2. Menstrual Support: Mugwort is believed to have emmenagogue properties, meaning it can stimulate blood flow in the pelvic area and promote regular menstruation. It has been used to relieve menstrual cramps and regulate menstrual cycles. However, pregnant women should avoid using mugwort as it may stimulate uterine contractions.
  3. Dream Enhancement: Mugwort is known for its association with vivid dreams and enhancing dream recall. It is sometimes used in the practice of lucid dreaming, where individuals aim to become aware and control their dreams. Mugwort can be used as an herbal pillow, smoked, or consumed as a tea before sleep for this purpose.
  4. Relaxation and Stress Relief: Mugwort is believed to possess calming properties and has been used to promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. It may be used in aromatherapy or incorporated into herbal preparations for relaxation purposes.
  5. Topical Applications: Mugwort has been used topically for its potential anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It has been employed in traditional remedies for skin conditions such as itching, rashes, and insect bites. However, it is important to perform a patch test before using mugwort topically to check for any adverse reactions.

TEA PREPARATION

  1. Add a large pinch (1-2tsp) to tea bag or infuser (for iced tea, use 2x herbs)
  2. Steep in 6-8oz hot water for 5-7 minutes
  3. Optional: add milk, honey, lemon or agave to taste
